Rocktec delivered a fully customised ag shed conveyor system for Ravensdown’s Supreme Lime facility in Te Kuiti, New Zealand. This mechanical plant upgrade was designed to improve bulk material handling, optimise storage efficiency, and meet strict safety standards in a busy agricultural setting.
Project Overview: Bulk Handling System for Ag Shed Operations
- Client: Ravensdown
- Location: Te Kuiti, New Zealand
- Industry: Agriculture / Bulk Material Handling
- Scope: Design, supply, and installation of a complete ag shed conveyor system with integrated catwalk and distribution auger
The Challenge: Streamlining Agricultural Storage and Distribution
Ravensdown needed an efficient way to move and distribute bulk commodities within their Supreme Lime facility. The system had to include a covered conveyor span across a roadway, dust encapsulation, and a distribution auger system suspended above the shed’s interior. Moreover, the entire plant needed to comply with AS/NZS 4024 safety standards and allow easy access for maintenance.
Rocktec’s Solution: Engineered Ag Shed Conveyor System with Distribution Auger
To meet these requirements, Rocktec provided a turnkey ag shed conveyor system that included design, documentation, fabrication, painting, equipment supply, transport, and installation. The mechanical plant featured:
- A conveyor stringer installed across a roadway, supported by four trestles at 12m intervals
- One fixed anchor point and a service walkway on one side of the conveyor
- Dust-encapsulated conveyor with over 300 rollers and full guarding to AS/NZS 4024 standards
- ESS primary, secondary, and return belt cleaners for clean operation
- A 24m horizontal distribution auger suspended from a catwalk in the shed’s roof
- Removable catwalk grating panels for maintenance access to auger bearings
This system supports continuous stockpile distribution throughout the shed, while maintaining safe and efficient operator access.
Ag Shed Structure and Storage Integration
To complete the solution, Okara fabricated and installed the ag shed trusses and a durable tarp cover system. The bulk shed also includes internal concrete bunkers, providing robust and clean zones for commodity storage and handling.
Implementation Process: Full-Service Project Delivery
- Engineering: Rocktec worked with Ravensdown to finalise system specs, safety requirements, and access pathways.
- Fabrication: All structural and mechanical components were built off-site and painted prior to delivery.
- Installation: The team installed the plant, tied it into the existing facility, and ensured everything met operational and safety standards.
Results and Benefits
- Efficient Material Flow: Bulk materials move seamlessly from entry point to stockpile.
- Safe Operation: AS/NZS-compliant guarding and service access enhance onsite safety.
- Reduced Downtime: Easy-access walkways and removable grating simplify maintenance tasks.
- Improved Storage: Integrated concrete bunkers and tarp-covered structure protect stock and extend shed lifespan.
Conclusion: A Smarter Way to Handle Bulk Commodities
This ag shed conveyor system is a perfect example of Rocktec’s ability to deliver tailored material handling solutions for New Zealand’s agricultural sector. With its engineered design, safety-first construction, and long-term durability, the Supreme Lime facility is now better equipped to manage storage and distribution year-round.
