Pugmill Plant for Perry Aggregates Ltd – Tauhei, NZ

by | Jun 14, 2011 | Projects

Rocktec partnered with Perry Aggregates Ltd to deliver a purpose-built continuous mixing plant at their Tauhei quarry site in New Zealand. This high-performance solution was engineered for both efficiency and mobility. As a result, it was designed to handle demanding aggregate processing requirements with ease.

Project Overview: Custom Materials Handling Solution for Perry Aggregates

  • Client: Perry Aggregates Ltd
  • Location: Tauhei, New Zealand
  • Industry: Quarrying & Aggregates
  • Scope: Design and manufacture of a high-capacity mixing system
  • Completion: 2011

The Challenge: Improving Mixing Output and Site Mobility

Perry Aggregates Ltd needed a heavy-duty solution to improve the speed, consistency, and mobility of their quarry operations. Specifically, their goal was to implement a system capable of processing 250 tonnes of material per hour. Furthermore, it needed to be easy to relocate across their Tauhei site.

Rocktec’s Solution: Skid-Mounted Continuous Mixing Plant

To solve this, Rocktec engineered and delivered a tailored continuous mixing plant that met all performance and mobility requirements. The system included:

  • A 20m³ feed hopper with a 900mm belt feeder
  • A rugged pugmill lined with rubber and UHMWPE for wear protection
  • All components skid-mounted for efficient transport and setup

Importantly, the mixing plant was designed to minimise downtime, handle tough aggregate conditions, and maintain a high output rate throughout continuous operation.

Continuous Mixing Plant Implementation Process: From Concept to Commissioning

  1. Design: Engineering teams scoped the plant to Perry’s operating targets and site layout.
  2. Build: High-performance materials were used to ensure durability in abrasive conditions.
  3. Assembly: A compact skid-mounted design enabled faster deployment with minimal disruption.
  4. Testing: Final commissioning confirmed output capacity and optimal material flow.

Results and Benefits

  • High Throughput: The system reliably delivered 250 tph processing rates, increasing overall productivity.
  • Operational Flexibility: Skid-frame construction allowed rapid relocation as needed, saving time during site adjustments.
  • Reduced Maintenance: Durable components helped cut downtime and extend equipment lifespan.

Conclusion: Built to Perform in the Field
